ABOUT ME

For as long as I can remember, I've been making up stories. From a very early age I was encouraged by my mum, a fellow author, and my dad, an engaging storyteller.

At the time, I didn't understand why all my childhood friends grew out of playing imaginary games so quickly. While their interests grew and evolved, I was still pretending to be a princess, a ninja, a pirate or a superhero. At the time I thought there was something wrong with me. I didn't realize that all of that "play" was the beginning of my life as a writer.

My interest in writing quickly turned into a love for Fantasy. Authors such as J.R.R Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Megan Whalen Turner, Alison Croggon, Travis Baldree, and many others inspired me to create my own fantasy world. When I was twelve, I named that world Rohedren and the name has stuck ever since.

Illustration came later when I really started to study drawing--when I discovered that I could sketch the characters I saw in my head. From there I designed characters, drew cartoons and painted landscapes. My love of art and illustration remains strong to this day.

 

Whenever I'm in need of inspiration, I turn to nature. Few things get my imagination going more than the west coast woods. Mossy trails, rocky beaches and tranquil lakes are my workspace of choice and often the same environments make their way into my work. My family's love of travel has also been a source of inspiration--I'm very grateful that I've seen so many different cultures and had such unique experiences.
